Testimonials from the children

As a co-opted governor at Rookery School & Children's Centre, I am so pleased to invite you on a unique journey that started as a thought at an opening evening I was invited to at Rookery School. This thought was to give primary school children the opportunity to obtain a recognised qualification in ICT (Information Communication Technology) which is offered by OCR (Oxford and Cambridge Royal Society of Arts). As part of the journey, I sought approval from the head teachers of three schools in Handsworth, Birmingham.

The second part of the journey was to offer this qualification to 121 children. There were 60 children from Welford Primary School, 31 children from Rookery school and Children’s Centre and 30 children from St Mary’s Church of England School. This project was designed for year 6 pupils however; year 5 were invited at St Mary’s school.

The third part of this innovative journey was the Awards Evening on 2nd July 2007 at the Council House in Birmingham Town Centre where the parents were invited to witness their child receiving a certificate and also meeting the Lord and Lady Mayoress of Birmingham.  Mr Tony Howell who is the Strategic Director-Children, Young People and Families also said a few encouraging words about education. He is responsible for all the schools in Birmingham, England. Mr Phil Wills who is the Customer Support Manager from OCR was present and he spoke about the availability of the qualification and how it is open to all ages.

We have had 100% success rate for all the children achieving thisqualification. They have all worked very hard.

The final part of this journey is to offer this project to other schools which will definitely help to maximise children’s skills in an area of education that is essential for career progression. They will also be able to take these valuable skills with them into their new Secondary school.

I hope you enjoy this website and please do not hesitate to leave your comments.
